Mtskheta

Mtskheta is the ancient capital of our country, and the Svetitskhovel Church is the main shrine. This is where Georgia's conversion to Christianity began. The Svetitskhoveli Church was built in the 11th century at the site where Georgia's first Christian church was erected in the 4th century. According to legend, a certain resident of Mtskheta called Elioz acquired part of Christ's robe from a Roman warrior while he was in Jerusalem and brought it back to Georgia with him.
